What is gandy bridge?

The Gandy Bridge, officially known as the Friendship Trail Bridge, is a bridge that spans across Tampa Bay in Florida, connecting Tampa to St. Petersburg. The bridge was originally built in 1956 and was the first to connect the two cities by road. It is a cable-stayed bridge that measures approximately 2.7 miles in length.

The bridge was named after George S. Gandy, Jr., who played a significant role in the development of the Tampa Bay area and the construction of the bridge. In 1999, the original Gandy Bridge was replaced by a new bridge that included a separate pedestrian and bike path, which became known as the Friendship Trail Bridge.

The Friendship Trail Bridge was closed in 2008 due to safety concerns, but there have been efforts to rehabilitate and reopen the bridge for public use. Plans for a new bridge to replace the old Friendship Trail Bridge are currently in development.

The Gandy Bridge is a popular route for commuters traveling between Tampa and St. Petersburg, as well as for cyclists, joggers, and walkers looking to enjoy the scenic views of Tampa Bay.
